My fictional laser satellite was lifted into orbit by the National Launch System (NLS), which in the real-world was cancelled. Many modules comprise the laser, including seven laser light generators. In my fictional universe, the SDLS-1 was the prototype for a fleet of satellites capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. The thing proved to be expensive and didn't really work as a missile defense laser. However, it worked great as a laser broom that could zap space junk and make it fall out of the sky. This was done in 3DS MAX.
